The only exception is Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort which reopens to guests on December 9, 2021. Lastly, Disney resort hotels are almost fully open. Dining reservations are limited to 60 days in advance in 2022. Read my reopening journal series for more details on what it’s like to visit the parks and dine. Having said that, some restaurants that typically offer character meals are serving, but no characters are present, while other typical character dining locations remain shuttered altogether. Keep in mind that the open ones typically have capacity limits in place due to social distancing restrictions, so you may find it trickier than usual to make an advance reservation.Īs for Disney character dining, a modified experience starring guests’ favorite Disney characters is provided at many locations. However, no reopening date has yet been announced for Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.ĭining locations are largely open, though several are still temporarily unavailable, including Disney World’s dinner shows. Additionally, while both Disney World water parks remained closed throughout the beginning of the pandemic, Blizzard Beach Water Park has since opened its doors to eager swimmers. Thankfully, as of January 1st, 2021, park hopping is back up and running for guests to take advantage of, with no signs of stopping anytime soon. In 2020, tickets were restricted to one park per day, with no park hopping being allowed. Some services have also changed, namely tickets and dining. Instead of hugs and autographs, guests can take selfies and wave at their favorites from afar at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. Not to mention, character meet-and-greets have finally made their return to the parks – socially distanced, of course. While you can only catch a parade at the Disney Very Merriest After Hours, random character cavalcades, motorcades and flotillas are bite-sized pieces of Disney character fun. Since then, Disney fireworks have come back to the parks, including the new shows, Disney Enchantment at Magic Kingdom and Harmonious at Epcot. Fan-favorite character experiences like parades and meet-and-greets were initially cut altogether, as were the nightly fireworks displays. Inside the parks, you can also expect some changes, particularly in terms of entertainment. Disney has also indicated that the increase in capacity will continue – no surprise with Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration in full swing. Towards the beginning of 2021, park capacity was restricted to 35%, with numbers slowly increasing as the year has moved on. Initially, Disney was at 25% capacity when they reopened in July and remained at that level through mid-September 2020. By doing this, Disney can control the number of people entering the parks, thus allowing them to help maintain social distancing guidelines and other recommended health measures. Essentially, any guest who wants to visit the parks has to make a reservation in advance. Disney has been limiting the number of guests allowed into the parks by using a Park Pass Reservations System. One of the most significant impacts on the guest experience in 2022 is crowd capacity limits. And as far as we can tell, Disney will not be closing the massive Central Florida resort again – unless they are forced to do so by state officials, anyway. Starting in March 2020, the parks were closed for several months, ultimately reopening in July and remaining open ever since.
